The fundamentals of rugby begin to be taught. Non-contact rugby is played with the use of “tagging” or flags. Passing skills are further developed and basic rugby gameplay begins to be taught.
Rugby gameplay advances with larger sized games. Non-contact rugby is played with the use of “tagging” or flags. Basic kicking skills being to be developed.
Transition to contact rugby begins. Focus on the safety aspects of proper tackle technique. Basic lineouts and scrums are introduced. Development of ball skills advance. Rucking basics introduced. Players should have mouthguards at all training sessions.
Contact games begin with maximum 13 players per team. Kicking in open play begins. Scrum and lineout skills further develop as numbers permitted in each increase to 6 vs 6. Rucking skills further develop past 1 vs 1 rucks. Coaches no longer on the field during game play.
